How to maintain the wheelchair to make it more durable?

For people with limited mobility, wheelchairs are their means of transportation. After the wheelchair is bought home, it must be maintained and inspected frequently, so as to make the user safer and improve the service life of the wheelchair.

First of all, let’s talk about some common problems of wheelchairs

Fault 1: tire puncture

1. Inflate tires

2. Feel firm when you pinch the tire. If it feels soft and presses in, it could be a leak or a punctured inner tube.

Note: Refer to the recommended tire pressure on the surface of the tire when inflating

Fault 2: Rust

Visually inspect the surface of the wheelchair for brown rust spots, especially the wheels, handwheels, spokes and small wheels. possible cause

1. The wheelchair is placed in a humid place 2. The wheelchair is not regularly maintained and cleaned

Fault 3: Can’t walk in a straight line

When the wheelchair slides freely, it does not slide in a straight line. possible cause

1. The wheels are loose and the tires are severely worn

2. Wheel deformation

3. Tire puncture or air leakage

4. The wheel bearing is damaged or corroded

Fault 4: The wheels are loose

1. Check whether the bolts and nuts of the rear wheel are tightened

2. Whether the wheels walk in a straight line or swing left and right when they turn Fault 5: Wheel deformation

Repairs can be difficult, and if necessary, please consult a wheelchair repair service.

Fault 6: Parts are loose

Check that the following parts are tight and functioning properly.

1. Cross bracket 2. Seat / back cushion cover 3. Side panels or armrests 4. Footrest

Fault 7: Improper brake adjustment

1. Use the brake to park the wheelchair. 2. Try to push the wheelchair on flat ground. 3. Pay attention to whether the rear wheels move.

When the brakes are working properly, the rear wheels will not turn.

How to maintain the wheelchair:

(1) Before using the wheelchair and within one month, check whether the bolts are loose, and tighten them in time if they are loose. In normal use, check every three months to ensure that all parts are in good condition. Check the various fastening nuts on the wheelchair (especially the fastening nuts on the rear wheel axle). If any looseness is found, it needs to be adjusted and tightened in time.

(2) The wheelchair should be wiped dry in time if it is exposed to rain during use. The wheelchair should also be wiped with a soft dry cloth frequently during normal use, and coated with anti-rust wax or oil to keep the wheelchair bright and beautiful for a long time.

(3) Frequently check the flexibility of activities and rotating mechanisms, and apply lubricant. If for some reason the axle of the 24-inch wheel needs to be removed, make sure that the nuts are tightened and will not loosen when reinstalling.

(4) The connecting bolts of the wheelchair seat frame are loosely connected, and tightening is strictly prohibited.
